Lead by a Shamanistic leader that makes them swear in blood on the swamp to return within a year either with a replacement guardian or to be the guardian. Ken does not swear. Thayer bluffs that they do not know who that person(ken) was that was attacking the guards, That guard would recognise Ken again if he shows himself, and maybe either of the 2 other guards might have seen him.
Most of the guards did not see him at all.
