Issue, the key to control of the elementals guarding the city is the Chain of Office. That is currently being worn by the head wizard of the Red Star, last scene leading a ritual inside the main keep of Citi De Mar.
PC's are mostly outside that castle keep, and the gates are guarded by Huge Earth Elementals bound to protect the keep.
-- two ideas
1- show them an image of the chains flying through the air, as the proper official can summon them, but maybe that don't work if he's currently wearing it. Its a summoning to office so he doesn't ahve to wear it all the time but can get it in an emergency.
2- need something for the main group to be doing while the mage and rogues work out that puzzle. maybe the mind numbing is starting to affect the dwarves and elves (maybe not the elves) so they have to go back to that puzzle, find the magical markings everywhere and rub them out / desctroy them?
-- THERE! changed it! Happy now????

***do they know they need the chain of office? showing them the chain is ok...summoning it to them while it is being worn may be a bad precedent to set
*** there must be another way in...they can either steal the chain from the neck or present the TRUE representative to the chain...?
*** or the TRUE representative can attempt to order the elementals to stand down...this may not work directly, but may be enough..in between dodging slams from said elementals..to cause the wizard wearing the chain to come out and deal with the interruption..
*** question is how legitimate is the head wizards claim??

*** sure...dwarves acting dumb..elves getting irate with them...something needs to be done...
that is much easier to read.....not as cool looking, but much easier to read...thanks
Yes, they were told about how the chain works.
In theory they could steal the chain. Unfortunately the first thing the rogue did when he saw the mages circle was throw a molotov cocktail, which pissed off the GM as a cheap trick. and got him a butt load of magic missles from the singed mages.
Yes, as soon as one of the good guys physically gets the chain, the rightful authority, their countess can appoint someone, and that someone can immediately order the elementals around.
The head wizards claim is legit as the old owner volunteered it over to save the city, and maybe at the countesses order. hehehe.
so they are screwed....ok write them off and concentrate on the 2nd group then...
you said 'mostly outside' so there is at least one inside then?
yes, Ken the rogue/ranger is inside (Ian)
so my guess is that some sneak inside, and try to get the chain off the head wizard (I should get / make a list of spells he and his cohort have available (1 wizard lvl7? 1 druid, 1 sorcerer, and 3 wizards of lower level say 5 ish)
The other likely target inside the castle is the current Captain of the guard and his cronies, for them I just need to find the sheets you already gave me for the Knights.
so Wiz7
druid, sorcerer, 3 Wiz all level 5
so that is a quick build...once i get back from my walk and remain conscious : )
Druid and Socerer should be 6 or 7, they are the next in line.
3 wizards are the apprentices.
those should have magic missles, they used them :-)
and thanks!
oh and RS50+ is a reference that this writup is for Red Star Episode ... something over 50 :-)
Heading home very soon.
