Book 2 Part 2 The Siege of Cita Del Mar
is complete, they have freed the city from the grasp of the Red Star.
Fall out
Someone should be made Champerlain.
How will they treat captured forces?
How will they rebuild?
What spoils of war?
there should be some magic, and some gold
is it time to actually start counting gold?
are they sure they 'saved the village'?
How do they want to approach the other two prophecies?
Who leveled up?
do we give them a game or two before all the others are level 8?
or leave them at 7 a bit.

Game Recap
- they started mostly out by their home street. There was some fighting with the stree guard Red Star, and the RS leader threw a torch into the stable (AJ's / Stephans home)
- flashback to them as kids, accidentally starting a fire in the same place.
- some of them had to rescue the old man that lives there... makes some comments about 'once when I was younger I could have commanded the fire away!" waving his arms as a madman.
- return from flashback, some rush in to save the old man again... and this time ask what he'd meant before, so they get the tale of him as Champerlain, and the power of the chain of office.
-they managed to get over the river somehow without using the bridges, probably using the River Otters of the elves, or maybe a magic boat they had handy.
- They debated and discussed things just outside the gate of the keep for some long time. fearing for their lives around the HUGE statues that came to life the time before.
- they were joined by units of both elves and dwarves
- after a lengthy debate they noticed the dwarves retreating without reason, eventually they realized the fear affect of the town was hiting the dwarves, they stayed in formation but kept steping backwards, very embarasing for them.
- at some point Red (Taylor) decided she'd waited enough and just started climbing the wall), soon they were mostly clambering up and taking on the guards at the top of the wall.
- the less climbery remained and searched for the secret door they somehow knew was there, and eventually found it between the legs of one of the statues... they felt pretty endangered.
-meanwhile inside the two rogues were searchiing and attaching the wizards tower, however the chain of office was not to be found.
- I maneuvered them so they all arrived at the Throne room within moments, and started one big fight to end the game.
- during that fight I asked everyone who had ever touched one of the dark books to make a WILL save, those that lost heard a voice in their head saying "you ARE the Dark". the two on the ground floor started walking to surrender, the two rogues found they could not directly attack, and the countess rolled a 29, so she was totally unaffected - and I plan to consider her immune from this affect from now on.
- despite all this, they kicked butt, stole the chain of office from the neck of the head Wizard, and won the day.
- the one who was named the new Chamberlain? Leeflo the Hafling Rogue :-) (he who embodies the traditional thief roll, including stealing money from their own team pockets.

Someone should be made Champerlain.
******Up to them
How will they treat captured forces?
***up to them, although if they don't show the fallen respect and treat them poorly there should be fallout of some kind..the ones in charge can be treated harshly, but the rank and file should at least be given so opportunity to repent
How will they rebuild?
***up to them, but good use of the captured forces...
What spoils of war?
*******depends..how much was being shipped out?
there should be some magic, and some gold
****absolutely...
is it time to actually start counting gold?
*****no i wouldn't..the gold belongs to the kingdom hence the Princess anyway really...she will give them what ever they need and she can i'm sure
are they sure they 'saved the village'?
*****yes..they freed the city, so they must have saved the village...just because they may not know what they did to save the village is irrelevant
How do they want to approach the other two prophecies?
****up to them but "prophecies wait for no man, woman, elve or dwarf" only halflings as Tolkien showed us are immune and can take their time with prophecies....
Who leveled up?
do we give them a game or two before all the others are level 8?
or leave them at 7 a bit.
****they saved a city..let them level up...unless they just leveled up? how many games have they played as 7th level? i still may just let them level up as you play so infrequently...

****works...i say it is now irrelevant since the city is free, thus the village is saved
unless you want to through a curve-ball and have a Searess come to them and say "the city is still being 'held', it is not yet free..you still save the village"
of course you would need to know what Save the village means then....
***********what is the stuff below about?

What
Old Joe, Di Paese,
Good comments, thanks. I think I agree with it all.
Di Paese is one of the translations of 'the village' in Italian. And it's the last name of the old chamberlain, Old Joe, they saved. When I run that flashback at GENCON, he should still have the power over the elements, 'show don't tell'
ok..that works...

***up to them, but good use of the captured forces...
- what would be done historically? Impressed into service? as miliatary or slave labor? contstruction?
What spoils of war?
*******depends..how much was being shipped out?

****absolutely...
- Is there a random chart for low level items? I should have had these for before the fight, so they could have been used.
Else, masterwork armor and weapons, perhaps one or two +1's and some potions?
is it time to actually start counting gold?
*****no i wouldn't..the gold belongs to the kingdom hence the Princess anyway really...she will give them what ever they need and she can i'm sure
- YES!
are they sure they 'saved the village'?
*****yes..they freed the city, so they must have saved the village...just because they may not know what they did to save the village is irrelevant
-- YES!
How do they want to approach the other two prophecies?
****up to them but "prophecies wait for no man, woman, elve or dwarf" only halflings as Tolkien showed us are immune and can take their time with prophecies....
- yep
Who leveled up?
do we give them a game or two before all the others are level 8?
or leave them at 7 a bit.
****they saved a city..let them level up...unless they just leveled up? how many games have they played as 7th level? i still may just let them level up as you play so infrequently...
- OK, that was my original plan. There are two PC"s that have been 1 level lower forever, I just let them level up before this last game. Going to let them all be the same now, all lvl 8.
SO, Next questions.
Why are typical things that would have to be repaired / replaced / handled as the city returns to non-imposed rule?
1- what beaurocratic stuff can I heap on the thief as the chamberlain for fun?
2- what legitimate stuff can I dump on the (should be_ NPC) Countess to keep her from continueing with the PC's on adventures.
3- what mini adventure hooks can the PC"s deal with in the city as the main game tonight, related to the above if at all possible.
Why are typical things that would have to be repaired / replaced / handled as the city returns to non-imposed rule?
*******Food, clean water and wood/fuel into the city...with two or more armies camped in the countryside and fighting in the city there the logistics to the city are in complete disarray
******* fires, damaged buildings, people with no place to stay...tent cities, possible plague/disease
*******what time of the year is it? if fall/winter the situation is more dire...
*****what is the main difference in duties between the chamberlain & the Countess..i'll provide answers to the below, but they may need tweaking based on your answer or may be completely wrong
1- what bureaucratic stuff can I heap on the thief as the chamberlain for fun?
****** in the city there will be egregious 'wrongs' that need to be set right
****** towns people will want to be feed, orphan children, damaged dwellings and businesses.
******vigilante justice will most likely run rampant once the celebrating is over...
*******past grievances both real and imagined will be 'set right
******Judging the prisoners for punishment....the citizens will most likely want blood!
*******This will be the opportunity for revenge as people will accuse others of working for the 'enemy'
2- what legitimate stuff can I dump on the (should be_ NPC) Countess to keep her from continuing with the PC's on adventures.
******similar to what the chamberlain is going through, but it will be with the local nobles and land owners
******she may have to arrange food shipments with other cities/towns
*******She may have to make deals with not so reputable characters to be able to get the required logistics delivered to the city
*******If any of the prisoners are nobles or landowners or just rich they will need to be judged by her
*******Is the city still in danger of attack? she will need to arrange for protection, militia of the able body men & women
3- what mini adventure hooks can the PC"s deal with in the city as the main game tonight, related to the above if at all possible.
******fires, vigilante justice, old scores being settled
******anyone from the 'other side' that escaped that still needs to be rounded up
******perfect time for an attempt on the Countess/ Princess? life, with all the first the celebrating and then as the city population realizes that they are tired and hungry and a lot of them may have no place to live
just some quick thoughts.....
Excellent!
So maybe the attack on the Countess is the right way to involve the new character. If she is accussed of treason, but actually helps twart an attack, and is later vouched for by the trusted locals ... then she's in.
